The Prabha Fellowship, an initiative of the Hiteswar Saikia Foundation, takes its name from the Sanskrit word Prabha, meaning illumination. True to its name, the fellowship aims to empower young minds with knowledge, research opportunities, and practical experience, allowing them to make meaningful contributions to society. Through research on the socio-political and economic contexts of Assam, fellows will identify key challenges, generate insights, and propose evidence-based solutions.



The fellowship encourages intellectual and civic growth by motivating fellows to deepen their understanding of governance, public policy, democratic processes, and community issues. Fellows will serve as catalysts for knowledge-based transformation by conducting fieldwork, analyzing policies, and directly engaging with stakeholders.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Prabha Fellowship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Understanding of Assam’s Context: Candidates must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the socio-political and economic landscape of Assam.

  2. Educational Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in one or more of the following fields: Social Work, Sociology, Political Science, Mass Communication & Journalism, Economics, and Law. Candidates with an LLB are also eligible.

  3. Language Proficiency: Proficiency in Assamese or another local language is preferred to aid effective fieldwork and engagement with stakeholders.

  4. Research Experience: Prior experience in research, fieldwork, or related areas is an added advantage.

  5. Computer Access: Candidates should have access to a personal computer for research and documentation purposes.

  6. Willingness to Travel: Applicants must be willing to travel regularly within Assam as part of their fellowship.

Selection Process

The selection process involves the following stages:

  1. Application Review: All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee based on academic qualifications, professional experience, and motivation. Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email.

  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a virtual or in-person interview. The interview will assess the candidate’s understanding of Assam’s socio-political context, research aptitude, communication skills, and commitment to the fellowship’s objectives.
